More Cake!

I made this cake for a good friend Jerrikka aka Jerri! This is the second birthday cake I made for her. I remember that day, I was rushing to put the last minute touches on the cake. I had a super busy week and waited until Friday to start baking, the birthday party was Saturday afternoon. I woke up, ran to the cake supply shop for boxes and candles. I made homemade fondant and I recall covering every inch of my tiny kitchen with powdered sugar. It was a total mess, but luckily I was able to get the cake finished and attend the party on time. I'm pleased with the outcome of this cake. It was super cute for something I put together very last minute. I guess its what happens when I procrastinate, but I'm blessed that I work well under pressure. Jerri loved the cake, and it was super delicious!

Cam absolutely loves loves loves cupcakes! He says he is lucky to have a Mom who bakes fresh desserts. I think its super cute when I bake, he ask to take one to school for a snack. I ate lunch with him at school and as he walks into the lunchroom, I see him bragging to his friends waving his cookie in the air. He's always asking, "Hey Mom, when are you going to bake that pie-cake again"? He's the best! He's my ultimate quality control monitor, and he does the job better than anyone else I know! I love that kid!

Cookies, Cupcakes & Pies OH MY!!!

Its been a while since I have given my blog some much deserved attention. I have been in my creative cocoon, planning and working behind the scenes to get all the necessary tools to get Southern Girl Treats up and running. People have been requesting desserts, and I have not been available to make any at this time. I learned that a great idea is nothing if you do not have organization. I was lacking all the tools for success. When I first put my idea to work, I knew how to bake, and I thought I could just print out some business cards and go from there. After months of working myself to the bone, I realized there were many missing parts to my puzzle. I did not have a set list of prices, so I ended up losing profit. I was a sucker for my customers, they would pay me whatever they had and I would take it. I had to get more stern and set on the prices I would charge. I also did not have a website for people to see my desserts. I realized that was a necessary tool in making a higher profit. I also decided that I would need to get a logo and be much more professional if I wanted people to take me serious. Last, but not least, I needed to to have a clearer business plan and vision, so I changed the name from Cakes by Steph, to Southern Girl Treats. So that's what I have been doing over the last few months in 2010. I'm getting more professional and trying to take Southern Girl Treats to the next level.

In February, I begin my quest to get all my business affairs in order, I set a goal to have Southern Girl Treats fully operational by the end of 2010. I admit, I hit the ground running when I finally set on my new concept to highlight Southern classic desserts, but towards the summer, my enthusiasm slowed when I started my summer school classes. By the end of summer, I decided to take a break, I was mentally exhausted and decided to take a semester break from school. I want to spend this time working on my creation. So that's exactly what I'm doing and I want to be serving desserts by Thanksgiving and Christmas. I could use the extra income, but I realize that I have to spend money to make money. Now if I could get the extra income to buy more supplies. Its a gamble I'm willing to bet all my chips on, I have to start putting my best foot forward again if I want to be successful. Its definitely time to get back to work. Southern Girl Treats awaits my energy and focus. To be continued......
